According to, Christopher Gerrard, Pam Graves, Andrew Millard, Richard Annis, and Anwen Caffell, in, Lost Lives, New Voices: Unlocking the Stories of the Scottish Soldiers at the Battle of Dunbar 1650, (England: Oxbow Books, 2018), on page 254, James is categorized as: Possible [that he is a Dunbar prisoner transported on the Unity]McRorie/Mackerory/Mackerwithey/McWithee, James. Residences: Dedham MA. Appears: 1662. D.aft.1679. He appears a little late but Dedham is a place where Scots prisoners settled. 1. JAMES¹ MCRORIE, was born, presumably in Scotland and died probably in MA about 1701. He married, first, at Dedham, MA, in Sep 1662, MARY EVERETT.2 She died at Dedham, MA, on 13 Jun 1670.3,4 He married, second, at Dedham, on 20 Feb 1670, PATIENCE CUBBY.3,5

On 7 Feb 2019, Erik Quist shared:
“I am also a descendant of James M’Rorie/Mackerory/Mackerwithey. I recently found notes referring to a letter written by his 2x Great Grandson.
“Evidence that James Mackarory/Mackerwithey was indeed one of the prisoners on this ship comes to us by way of a letter written by his great great grandson. In the NEHGS Library is a Kimball family newsletter. I looked at it because Bethia Mackerwethe (James2 James1)married a Joseph Kimball. In the Sept. 1898 newsletter (p.153) is a published letter written in January, 1839 by Elder Roswell Kimball, who is a grandson of Joseph and Bethia. He notes that Joseph his father, i.e. the son of Joseph & Bethia, died in 1822, aged nearly 91. He continues “My father’s mother was descended from a Scottish Highlander of the name of ‘Maceraithy’ who fought against Cromwell at the battles of Dunbar and Worcester in the sixteenth (sic) century, and two of her connections fell at the fatal battle of Culloden, fighting in the ranks of the Pretender Prince Charles.””

This letter does not seem clear on Dunbar versus Worcester. Maybe he fought in both?”
