First Generation in the New World

1. JOHN¹ ROSS, was born presumably in Scotland and died in Massachusetts. He married, at Wenham before 09 Apr 1664, MARY HAGGETT, the daughter of HENRY (1594-1678) and ANN (_____) HAGGETT.1 MARY was born about 1646 and died at Windham, Connecticut on 05 Nov 1725 about 79 years of age.

1. The Ross Families of Ipswich, Massachusetts by Kathleen Barber, Janet Ireland Delorey and Alice Bruce Sherman2
2. John, Killicress (Gilchrist), and Fennel Ross are all living in Ipswich around the same time.3
3. Mary (Haggett) Ross died at Windham on 5 Nov 1725 about 79 years probably in the home of one of her sons, Daniel Ross or Joseph Ross.

Biographical Notes: Called Mary Ross alias Southwick in the distribution of her brother Jonathan’s estate on 13 Nov. 1704. She m. at Ipswich on 24 June 1686, SAMUEL SOUTHWICK, he is the son of JOHN and SARAH (_____) (Tidd) SOUTHWICK. He died by 13 Mar 1709/10.5

He married as “Daniel Raws of Windon”, first, at Lynn, Massachusetts, MARY FARR.7 She died at Windham on 07 Jul 1709. He married, second, in 1716, MARGARET HOVEY.8 He married, third, at Windham on 30 Mar 1741, JUDITH (WARD) WARNER.9

2. x. JOSEPH² ROSS, (John¹), was born at Ipswich on 13 Mar 1682/3 and baptised as a “grown” son on 08 Feb 1707/8. He moved to Windham, Connecticut where his brother Daniel Ross had moved.11
