SOURCES AND NOTES:
On 4 June 2019, Dr. Andrew Millard posted on the Facebook Group, saying:
“An article in the latest edition of The NEHG Register focusses on David Holmes (Hume) from the John and Sara, giving his children and some grandchildren. His wife was Joan who later married John MacIntosh of Dedham. The article doesn’t discuss MacIntosh’s identity. It seems to me he could be the John Mackenthow also on the John and Sara, but can’t be John Tosh from the Iron Works Inventory, later of Braintree and Block Island.

and … It’s a fairly well documented family. Oliver Wendell Holmes was among his descendants”

On 11 April 2018, Vincent E. Knapp, said:
“David Hume was born most likely in Scotland. Name recorded in early records as Hime, Himes, Hims, Hooms, Home, Homes, Hume as well as Holmes. David is listed among the Scottish prisoners (probably of the Earl of Home’s Regiment of Foot)1 captured at the Battle of Worcester on 3 Sep 1651,2 who were transported to New England on the ship, “John and Sarah”, which left London in November 1651, and arrived in Boston in January 1652. These Scots were indentured for six to eight years to pay for the cost of their transport so few records are available during the term of their indenture. One of the first records of David was his acceptance as an inhabitant of Nipmug (Mendon) on 30 Dec 1663, but there is no record of his ever having lived there. He did buy a house and adjacent land in Milton from Jonathan Gatlive of Boston on 20 Oct 1664. David was living in that house at the time of the purchase. He died 2 Nov 1666.”
